Water Supply Update & Road Closure

Construction of a mile-long pipeline to interconnect LCA’s Central Lehigh Division with the City of Allentown’s water supply at Schantz Spring is currently on pace for a late-summer or early-fall completion. When complete, this interconnection will provide an additional 2 million gallons of groundwater to the system, which will allow us to optimize our other well stations to run the system as efficiently as possible.

To complete the road crossing in the pipeline project, Schantz Road will be shut down July 6 – 9 in the vicinity of the one-lane bridge at the big curve by Schantz Spring. Travelers coming from Hamilton Boulevard or Cetronia Road should be prepared to detour around this area during the project.

Download the road closure notice for more information, or contact our senior project engineer, Mike Barron, at 610-398-2503.

  1. LCA Employee says:

Will customers notice a change in water quality when this project is complete?

  2. Lehigh County Authority says:

Thank you for your question! For this phase of the interconnection project, we will be adding water supplied from Schantz Spring to our system. This is a groundwater source, which is essentially the same as the water we already draw from wells throughout our service area. The general characteristics of our water quality such as taste, hardness/calcium content, temperature, etc. should be the same as our current well water supply. And of course LCA will be required to treat the water and test it regularly to ensure that it meets safety standards for public health protection.

Please check back to this category in the future for updates on future phases of the project that may affect water quality.
