Overview of Current Water Projects

Water Meter Replacement Program – In 2010 and early 2011, LCA completed Phase 1 of a meter replacement project to upgrade or replace approximately 4,500 water meters to the latest technology. In 2011, we started replacing approximately 3,900 more water meters that are 20+ years or older and have reached the end of their useful life.  Customers who are involved in this project have been notified directly about their responsibilities for this mandatory program. At the same time that these meters are replaced, dual check backflow preventers will be installed after the meter to help protect the public water system from contamination originating in the home.  This project also includes the installation of radio transmitters (MXUs) at all residences where they are currently not installed to allow for quick and accurate meter readings.  The second phase of this project began in July 2011 and will be completed in June 2012. Again, if your home is included in the project, you already have or will be receiving information directly from us explaining the project in greater detail and outlining the project timeline.  This project is financed in part by a grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Commonwealth Financing Authority. For more information, download program information packet or you can email Ed Hoyle, project manager.

LCA & City of Allentown Interconnection – In order to meet the growing daily demands for water in western Lehigh County, LCA will be creating an interconnection with the City of Allentown’s water system.  Phase 1 of this project was completed in 2010.  A 24″ water main was extended from Schantz Road to Allentown property at Schantz Spring where a pumping station with chlorination facilities will be built.  Phase 2 will include a second main extension from the pumping station to the City’s transmission main loacted at the intersection of 26th and Chew Streets.  The project is expected to be completed in 2012.   For more information, download our interconnection fact sheet or you can email Mike Barron, project manager.
